I have some exciting news!

I have joined forces with an awesome company who share the same values and goals as I do. As of this week I am a Brand Ambassador for Mountain Bikes Direct - your one stop shop for all the gear you and your family need to hit the trails. We want to see more people out there, getting their bodies moving, and better yet, riding some dirt!

You probably have loads of questions like: why? what has this got to do with nutrition? are you still a nutritionist? how does this affect me? does it change anything about blog posts or social media or anything else?

I'm going to answer the simple questions first:

My blogging and social media channels and everything else will stay the same. But, if you head on over to the Mountain Bikes Direct website, you'll find I'm putting up some regular nutrition pieces specific to mountain biking. Some of them will be race related, some of them might be recipes and some stuff will be tips for you and your whole family to keep you motivated and moving.

The next easiest question to answer is "what has this got to do with nutrition?" Well, everything. Because I take a holistic approach to health. While I spend a lot of time talking about what you put in your mouth, its also important to look at your whole life, and regular movement, especially something you love doing, is really good for you.

And finally, my favourite question, "why?" I get to combine two of the things I'm passionate about - nutrition and mountain biking, all while being involved with a company who share the same set of values as I do, which is that anyone can get out there and have a go. Can you tell how excited I am?

Some years ago my husband said to me "I'd really liked to try mountain biking". I looked at him like he was insane and probably told him as much. My idea of mountain biking was a guy, hurtling down the side of a mountain, wearing full body armour and trying not to die. Now, for some people that's what mountain biking looks like. However for most, it does not.

Fast forward some years and we reach 2017 when we moved to Canberra. My husband took me on a little date to Mount Stromlo on my second hand, barely working bike. We only rode around the bottom of the mountain, but there I was, hurtling along, somewhat out of control, having realised what had been missing from my life. I should also point out that the ground was mostly flat, my fitness was near non existent, and in hindsight I may not have even been going that fast. But in that moment, I was hooked.

Fast forward again, less than 12 months, and here I am, mostly in one piece, with a hobby and a passion that has seen me get quite a bit fitter, and enjoying a hobby that my whole family can get involved in. Yup - my kids, aged 8 and 9 years both ride, as does my husband. I've even entered a few races. It's a sport that can be anything you want it to be- you can throw yourself off a mountain, ride with your friends or family, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the trees and the bush. For me, its a mixture of all of those. And I suspect it is still evolving.

So watch this space for exciting things to come from myself and Mountain Bikes Direct!
